Manchester United are leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Dortmund allegedly turned down a £19m offer for the American midfielder last week but his agent Mino Raiola insists the Armenian international is desperate to sign for Man United and has always dreamed of playing at Old Trafford.
The club has started making plans for Mkhitaryan’s exit and have contacted fellow Bundesliga club Wolfsburg about Andre Schurrle’s availability as they consider him as the ideal replacement for the 27-year-old.
Di Marzio report Man United remain ahead of Arsenal in the race to land his services but would have to fork out at least £40m if they want to lure him away from the Westfalenstadion.
He ticks all the boxes for what United are looking for on the market and it’s clear he would love to play for us but it doesn’t look like Dortmund will make the possibility of him leaving very easy.
Dortmund could reject all offers but would most likely lose him on a free transfer next summer and could risk keeping an unhappy player at the club, but if they can’t find a suitable replacement they won’t be forced to into selling him to United.
Raiola is doing a splendid job of the stirring the pot, his comments have been very open about Mkhitaryan’s desire to join United so now it all depends on whether the club want to cash in on him or let him leave on a free.
