Manchester United have made an improved offer of £28m for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan according to The Mirror.
Mkhitaryan, 27, has one year left on his current Dortmund contract and the German club have already officially confirmed he will not be renewing past 2017.
Since that announcement, Mkhitaryan’s agent has been angling extremely hard for a potential move to Man United and the reports suggest Jose Mourinho has made a big push towards bringing him to Old Trafford.
Dortmund are in a position to refuse any offers but they face the possibility of losing him on a free next summer and with Raiola continuing to speak very openly about Mkhitaryan’s desire to join United, there is also a chance the Armenian winger could hand in a transfer request and force the issue.
In terms of what United need, Mkhitaryan ticks a lot of the boxes and clearly would relish the chance of joining us this summer but Dortmund will not make it easy for him to leave. I’d expect them to try every trick in the book to keep him in Germany with Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan already gone this summer.
One thing is for sure – Raiola will continue to stir the pot, much to Dortmund’s pleasure I’m sure, so we’re expecting this to rumble on for a while yet and very much in the public domain.
