Manchester United have lost out as Swiss international Breel Embolo has moved to German side FC Schalke 04 for a fee believed to be in the region of €20m.
The 19-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and reports suggested we had won the race for his signature.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were also interested in landing his services along with Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, but he opted for a surprise move to Schalke.
He signed a signed a five-year-deal at the club, keeping him at the Veltins-Arena until 2021.

Embolo is a talented striker and has featured in all four of Switzerland’s games at Euro 2016, before their elimination to Poland on penalties on Saturday.
Schalke were quick to highlight interest from some of Europe’s top clubs in their Twitter announcement, but with Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming in at Old Trafford next season it doesn’t look like we’ll be missing out on too much.
His arrival may have pushed Marcus Rashford down the pecking order at Old Trafford which is something fans wouldn’t have been very pleased about after his spectacular debut season. Sky Sports have previously reported Mourinho turned down the chance to sign Jamie Vardy to allow Rashford to develop on the first-team and it’s brilliant to see him looking out for the youngster.
