Over the last four seasons in Europe’s top five leagues, only Cristiano Ronaldo (148) and Lionel Messi (143) have scored more than Ibrahimovic (113) and with over 50 goals in the 2014/15 season alone, his record truly speaks for itself.
Having missed out on a top four spot on goal difference, Mourinho has alleviated that problem by signing Ibrahimovic and he’s just as excited as fans to see him in action.
Speaking about Zlatan, Mourinho said: “Zlatan needs no introduction. The statistics speak for themselves. Ibra is one of the best strikers in the world and a player who always gives 100 per cent.
“He has won the most important league championships in the world of football, now he has the opportunity to play in the best league in the world and I know he will grasp this opportunity and will work hard to help the team win titles.
“I am certain that his talent will delight fans at Old Trafford next season and that his experience will be invaluable in helping to develop the younger players in the squad.”
Mourinho is a winner, Ibrahimovic is a winner, so they’ll both have one thing and one thing only in mind next season. I’ll give you a clue – it’s winning.
One thing is for sure – United have got their winning mentality back. Whether or not that means silverware follows remains to be seen but what was a fragile, young team under Louis van Gaal has been transformed immediately by the arrival of Mourinho and Ibrahimovic.
