Napoli hope to sign Monaco right-back Fabinho but the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is trying to manoeuvre a move to Manchester United, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Fabinho, 22, is said to be on Napoli’s radar as they look to strengthen their defence but Mendes is reportedly focused on an agreement with Man United.
United currently have Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian on their books, but the former missed a large chunk of the 2015/16 campaign through injury and the latter underwhelmed during his debut season under Louis van Gaal.
Great teams are built on a solid defence and it is always beneficial to add depth to the squad but bringing Fabinho in would be a sign that Mourinho doesn’t trust the players already at Old Trafford.
Centre-back Eric Bailly has already signed from Villarreal, while Raphael Varane is also said to be on United’s radar.
In the short-term, Mourinho is clearly looking to strengthen his forward line, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan said to be close to joining Zlatan Ibrahimovic at United.
