Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Ryan Giggs’ decision to leave Manchester United in order to pursue his management career.
Jose Mourinho is expected to appoint long-term assistant Rui Faria which left the Welshman without a job at Man United.
Giggs was at Man United for 29 years, but decided to part ways with the club after he was overlooked for the Old Trafford hot seat in favour of Jose Mourinho.
Speaking about his decision, Sir Alex insists it is time for Giggs to stand on his own feet and become a manger elsewhere.
“It is time Ryan stood on his own feet, got out there and accepted the challenge,” he said.
“I talk about his poker face. He has a bit of steel about him.
“It is such a highly intense results industry, you need people who go into it to have a bit of steel about them, a bit of character and personality.”
Giggs made a record 963 appearances for Man United before becoming an interim manager following the sacking of David Moyes in 2014.
He then served as assistant manager for two seasons under Louis van Gaal and will be looking to pick up some much needed experience elsewhere.
It’s sad to see a club legend like Giggs leave the club, but it’s the best call for him to make if he wants the chance at managing United further down the line.
