Manchester United fans have been eagerly anticipating the announcement of Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a summer signing ever since Borussia Dortmund announced he’d be leaving a few days ago.
Now, the deal is done and Mkhitaryan is a red. Here’s the first photo of Henrikh holding up his Man United shirt in all of its glory:
This is a really top drawer signing and its importance shouldn’t be underestimated. Dortmund had no intention of letting Mkhitaryan go and why would they? Last year he scored over 20 goals and assisted more than 20 as well – that record is phenomenal.
Under Thomas Tuchel, his mental game dramatically changed and previous weaknesses were patched up and he became one of Dortmund’s most influential players in one of Europe’s best leagues in the Bundesliga. Now, that mature 27-year-old player is joining United and we should reap the rewards.
Angel di Maria’s arrival came with a real fanfare but it never quite worked out because his style clashed so horribly with Louis van Gaal. Mkhitaryan has joined United as a specialist signing by Jose Mourinho because he is exactly the player he wants – there are certainly exciting times ahead.
