Blaise Matuidi could be on the verge of a move to Manchester United, according to reports.
French newspaper L’Equipe says the midfielder has been given permission to fly to England to discuss personal terms with an English club ahead of a proposed move to the Premier League.
France are still in contention to win Euro 2016 and play Germany in the semi-final on Thursday but reports say Matuidi was given permission which suggests a move could be on the cards.
Jose Mourinho has not hesitated in pulling the trigger on transfers this summer and has already signed three top players despite only being in the job for over a month.
The Portuguese manager has more solid work done than Man United conducted in the last two seasons combined and has brought in talent in problematic positions for United.
Matuidi would fill another void in the club’s midfield with Bastian Schweinstieger’s ability to remain fit for an entire season and Morgan Schneiderlin suffering through a poor debut season at Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old is a Mourinho type of player and would fit in as one of his number sixes protecting the back four from being exposed.
If United manage to sign Paul Pogba, which remains a possibility, then the French connection between the two players in midfield would be a dream come true. They complement each other well and cover each other’s weaknesses while accenting each other’s strengths.
In bringing in more players it will also prove that Mourinho is starting an entirely new era at the club complete with his own players and ideas of how to play football.
