Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes his side’s pre-season fixture against Manchester City will add another edge to their preparations for the new season.
Jose Mourinho‘s side will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as part of the International Champions Cup in Beijing on July 25.
They are set for a hectic month and will also play Borussia Dortmund in China, three days before the derby.
Speaking about the clash, Carrick claims it’ll be a great game for the fans to witness.
“I’m sure there will be a little bit of added spice for a pre-season friendly,” he told the club’s website.
“It’ll be great for the fans out there to witness.
“The support we get out there is incredible so the atmosphere will go up a notch I’m sure.”
Mourinho and Guardiola have plenty of history from their time in charge of Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, they will now head into their first seasons in Manchester looking to reclaim the title from Leicester City.
They are two of the strongest characters in the world of football and I’m sure fans will be set for an exciting campaign in the Premier League, but the friendly clash will give one side an early confidence boost until both sides meet again in the Manchester Derby.
Carrick has recently signed a new deal at the club and will be looking to hit the ground running under the Portuguese boss next season, he could play a vital role in Mourinho’s side as he looks to get the club back to it’s former glory days.
