Former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand has admitted he would love to see Paul Pogba make a return to Old Trafford.
The Frenchman has been in in spectacular form and is preparing for the Euro 2016 final against Portugal on Sunday night at the Stade de France.
Sky Sports claim Man United’s main rival Real Madrid have backed out of the race to land his services due to economic reasons leaving the Old Trafford club with a green light to sign Pogba should they meet Juventus’ demands.
Speaking about a potential transfer, Ferdinand insists Pogba would be the perfect signing for Man United.
“I would love him to return,” Ferdinand told The Sunday Times.
“United need personalities. The league needs star players, charisma, and at the moment they are not in England.
“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is here. Yes, that’s a great start, but how long for?
“You need someone to be there for four or five years and filter his charisma and star quality throughout the whole league.
“Pogba is that player. United would fit the bill in terms of helping him become the complete package he is so determined to be.”
He made just seven appearances across all competitions for United before moving to the Serie A side on a free transfer as a 19-year-old in 2012.
Pogba is now one of the most exciting prospects in Europe and will only improve as he gets older. His fee could easily reach £100m but he would definitely play a vital role in Jose Mourinho‘s side as the Portuguese boss looks to get the club back to it’s former glory days.
