The 2015/16 season was largely one to forget for both players, Shaw especially following his horror injury in September, but fans will be rubbing their hands together at the thought of the duo working wonders down the left flank next year.
With Shaw’s constant overlapping runs, Memphis played with real confidence in his game but that disappeared as soon as Shaw suffered his injury and Memphis’ form never recovered. Rarely do you see one player’s injury affect another so obviously but that was certainly the case with Memphis under Louis van Gaal.

They immediately hit it off as friends last year because they were both in the same situation – young, talented and under pressure after arriving at United with a big price tag. You could see how much they related to each other but injury cruelly robbed them of what could have been a brilliant partnership.
However, after lots of hard work and time has passed, Shaw and Memphis are now in a position to re-kindle that partnership with Mourinho in charge and the prospect of them tearing up the left-wing is a tantalising one.
Will Anthony Martial keep his place on the left or move elsewhere? Time will tell but if Memphis and Shaw can re-find that early season form they had last season, we’re in for a real treat this year.
