The 18-year-old came on for the final ten minutes and clearly made a serious impression on Mourinho, who praised him for his potential and without question said he felt he had what was needed to become a first-team player.
Asked about young players taking their chances, Mourinho said: “You can play 90 minutes or 1 minute. Sometimes 1 minute is enough.
“With Axel, ten minutes is enough! The potential is there, you see it immediately.
“You know him better than me because you know him for a few years but if anyone sees him for the first time, ten minutes is enough to see the potential.”
Tuanzebe’s been at the club since he was a little kid and his potential for leadership saw him named U18s alongside RoShaun Williams. In that season, he helped the U18s go over 500 consecutive minutes without conceding and Louis van Gaal saw his potential too by giving him a spot in the match day squad against Crystal Palace last season.
There are lots of youngsters to be excited about at United for a variety of reasons and Tuanzebe is certainly one of them. In terms of defensive potential, Tuanzebe and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are two players who look like they have the characteristics to follow in Marcus Rashford‘s footsteps under Mourinho if they get the opportunity.
