Eric Bailly: Manchester United debut felt very good

by Tanveer Arayan

Before Manchester United’s game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, Jose Mourinho warned that Eric Bailly would need longer to settle at the club as he doesn’t speak English.

Yet, if the celebrations after Andreas Pereira‘s goal are anything to go by then it looks like Bailly has began to settle down at Man United faster than Mourinho might have imagined.

Bailly certainly doesn’t look like a player who is struggling to fit in with his new team-mates does he and after the game he sent a message to the fans. Understandably, Bailly’s happy with how his debut went:

What impressed me the most about Bailly was his ball work. Chris Smalling can do that at certain points but he’s more comfortable being the dominant centre-back who stays behind. Combining Bailly’s pace with his natural ability to play possession football will make him a breath of fresh air in our team.

Mourinho has been very methodical so far in his signings this summer and Bailly could well prove to be an excellent signing. The real test for him is obviously when the Premier League begins but his power means he should be able to cope with the physical nature of it. All in all, it’s a solid start and I’m delighted we’ve strengthened in defence properly.
