Jose Mourinho is ready to offer Jesse Lingard a new Manchester United contract, according to reports.

The Englishman is said to be in talks with the club over a new £40,000-a-week deal to tie his future down at Old Trafford.

His contract was due for an upgrade at the end of last season but the departure of former boss Louis van Gaal placed negotiations on hold.

Lingard made 25 Premier League appearances, including 19 starts in his breakthrough season at the club and the Portuguese boss has allegedly given a green light over his improved contract.

He is currently contracted until 2018 and is believed to be on a deal worth around £25,000 a week, but he has proven to be a valuable asset to the side and even scored the extra-time winner in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

He featured in United’s friendly against Wigan Athletic and reports suggest Premier League clubs Tottenham, Everton and West Ham showed interest in his services.

Lingard’s impressive performances last season helped him overtake Memphis Depay in the pecking order and there’s no doubt he’ll be looking to hit the ground running under Mourinho next season.
