Juan Mata has suppressed rumours about leaving Manchester United urging fans to not “always listen to the media.”
It was reported the 28-year-old, who was sold by Jose Mourinho back at Chelsea in 2014, was set to be sold by the Portuguese once more this summer.
The Spaniard has received interest from both Everton and Valencia ever since Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford last month.
Despite these reports, Mata has told fans not to listen to the media and denied any impending exit.
It was almost immediately thought that the beginning of Mourinho at Man United would signal the end for Mata. His more technical, patient style seemed incompatible with the 53-year-old’s emphasis on fast, energetic, counter-attacking football.
But Mata appears to be focused on cementing himself on the starting XI, rather than repelled by his history with Mourinho. A calm, collected performance against Wigan on Saturday, which included an assist for Will Keane‘s opener, is perhaps an example of Mata’s determination to prove Mourinho was wrong to discard him at Chelsea.
He will undoubtedly be looking to hit the ground running under the Portuguese boss in the pre-season to line himself up with the best possible chance of locking down his future at Old Trafford.
