Juan Mata: Luke Shaw’s Manchester United return was my Wigan highlight

Juan Mata has praised Luke Shaw‘s return to action for Manchester United in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic.

The Englishman had been out of action since September after suffering a double fracture of his right leg in a Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven, but he finally played 45 minutes in the 2-0 win at the DW Stadium.

It was brilliant to see him back on the pitch and Man United manager Jose Mourinho also singled him out for praise after the game.

Mata took to social media after the game to highlight Shaw’s return to match fitness.

Shaw was signed by Louis van Gaal from Southampton two years ago and got off to the best possible start to last campaign, he was a vital part of the Dutchman’s side but was ruled out after his injury.

Van Gaal tried to plug the gap with a number of defenders, but none of them were able to replicate Shaw’s impressive performances.

There’s no doubt he’ll be looking to solve United’s left-back conundrum under Mourinho and will play a vital role under the Portuguese boss this season.
