Marcus Rashford has posted a photo of himself preparing for the upcoming 2016/17 season.

The striker missed out on Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Wigan on Saturday due to being rested following his exploits with England at Euro 2016, where he impressed many with his direct, fearless running style in his two appearances in France.

The 18-year-old, who signed a new contract with the club last month, is set to join up with the senior squad in the coming weeks.

However, Rashford has already begun his preparations for what promises to be an exciting season under Jose Mourinho.

Amidst the joy brought by Mourinho’s appointment there was a tint of anxiety surrounding Rashford’s future. He had been the shining light of the latter stages of Man United’s 2015/16 campaign, the central glimmer of hope amongst the desolation. But I feared that the deadly youngster would be pushed aside, paving the way for more experienced heads.

However, if Rashford’s contract renewal – signed in a matter of days following Mourinho’s appointment – is anything to go by, the 53-year-old shares the enthusiasm of United fans over this talented youngster, who continues to defy the odds in his rapid ascension to stardom.
