Rio Ferdinand insists Manchester United can win the league under Jose Mourinho labelling his appointment as the “start of a new generation of football at Old Trafford.”
Now that the 53-year-old has been appointed, Ferdinand believes his new United side can challenge for the title next season.
“He could be the start of a new generation of football at Manchester United, given that opportunity,” he said.
“When you have a manager with Mourinho’s ability, you always have a chance of winning the league.”
Amongst the numerous contenders for the title, only Mourinho and Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri have won the Premier League in the past ten years. That superior experience and knowledge of a Premier League title chase in the modern footballing climate – in contrast with the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, Conte, Pochettino and Wenger – could prove to be crucial come May.
The 53-year-old has already made some shrewd moves during his time at the club, acquiring the services of Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in remarkably ruthless fashion, showing Mourinho is wasting no time in looking to gain an advantage over his numerous opponents.
