Blackett and Wilson were both omitted from Mourinho’s 25-man tour squad this morning after failing to do enough to impress the 53-year-old.
Will Keane, who netted the first goal in Man United’s 2-0 win over Wigan on Saturday, will fly to Shanghai and participate in warm up games against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Galatasaray, but the club will listen to offers for the 21-year-old.
The departure of these three youngsters comes as a result of Mourinho’s desire to trim down the numbers in his squad in order to form a strong, cohesive unit of just 23 men.
To see both Blackett and Wilson almost certainly leave the club is both an upsetting and understandable turn of events. Blackett impressed many with the way he nonchalantly broke into the first-team, while Wilson made worldwide headlines by scoring a brace on his debut.
However, both players have struggled to progress from promising early starts at the club, whilst Keane has never managed to force his way into the senior side. Their exit is an example of Mourinho’s ruthlessness and desire for perfection and togetherness, which unfortunately precludes them from being involved in a very promising squad.
