Reports were rife on Wednesday night that Man United and Juventus had agreed a deal for Pogba to come back to Old Trafford having been sparked into life by French newspaper L’Equipe and their story suggesting everything was already done.
Speaking about Pogba, Mourinho said he didn’t want to say anything because he remained a Juventus player at this moment in time.
“I don’t confirm and I don’t deny, I cannot tell,” Mourinho said when questioned out in China.
“First of all, because I don’t think it’s correct to speak about players from other clubs. He’s a Juventus player, not a Manchester United player.”
I wouldn’t have expected anything less from Mourinho. He’s a man trained in transfers and the media are his puppet; he won’t give anything away he doesn’t want to and right now Jose is remaining tight lipped. It might be frustrating for United but with such a major deal, you wouldn’t expect to hear a manager comment on it.
What’s next for United fans? Well, we sit in anticipation. There was too much smoke on Tuesday with the Pogba reports for there not to be a fire and that fills me with some confidence. At this point, I think it’s just the final stages of the negotiations with Mino Raiola holding up the official announcement – that’s what most major outlets are reporting.
