Is Anthony Martial frustrated with Manchester United after shirt number change?

by Sam Peoples

Anthony Martial was given No.9 in his first year as a Manchester United player but the club has subsequently given that number to Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer.

While it seems like an insignificant change as far as fans are concerned, especially considering Ibrahimovic will only be here for one year – two maximum – there are reports that it’s angered Martial.

The suggestion is that United didn’t inform Martial the change would be happening and given that he has started a brand labelled ‘AM9’, you’d understand if he was a bit pissed off about it.

Then when his Facebook profile picture and cover photo changed to this, eyebrows were raised:

Is he frustrated? Well, I think he’d have every right to be a little bit annoyed but the concept of Martial leaving United because of a shirt number change is quite possibly my favourite transfer rumour ever. I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous.

Martial wouldn’t have even changed his Facebook profile picture or cover photo. If he’s got his own official website and brand then he’ll have a social media team in charge of his accounts, they will be responsible for the change.

There’s absolutely nothing to fear here as far as Martial’s future at United is concerned and why would there be? After all, he’s been given Ryan Giggs’ famous No.11 shirt and it’s the same number he wears for the French national team. Panic not, United fans.
