Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists he will have no problem shaking Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s hand at Monday’s pre-season derby in Beijing.
The game will be the first time they meet with their new clubs but will be the second meeting since their time in charge of Barcelona and Real Madrid ended in 2012.
Their infamous rivalry will continue in the Premier League this season, but they have both turned down the significance of their rivalry and will offer a hand of friendship whenever they meet.
“I don’t want to qualify the question, of course I will shake his hand,” he said.
“Why shouldn’t we? We are professionals and we have a normal relationship, I don’t see the reason for the question.”
Guardiola and Mourinho had two seasons in direct competition with each other in Spain and each won one La Liga title, between 2010 and 2012. Their rivalry runs deep but possibly Mourinho’s most controversial incident involving Barcelona came in August 2011, when he jabbed a finger in the eye of Guardiola’s assistant Tito Vilanova.
Both managers will be looking forward to the game and will want to build chemistry with their new squads, they won’t be focusing on the result of the pre-season fixture, but fans will enjoy the bragging rights until they next meeting at the Manchester Derby in the Premier League.
The Premier League will certainly be set for a ton of excitement this season, not only do the best players in the world want to prove themselves in England, but the best managers are also here to clash and hopefully win the title.
