Another hour, another update on Paul Pogba to Manchester United.
This time it comes from Gianluca di Marzio and it’s good and bad news as far as Man United fans are concerned.
The good news? Pogba is very close to joining United according to Di Marzio and there are only some small, minor details to resolve before it can be completed. The bad news? The main minor detail is Mino Raiola and his fee which neither United nor Juventus have any interest in paying.
At this stage, Juventus are starting to look just as greedy as Raiola. I mean come on, they’ve got £75m to spend on 28-year-old Gonzalo Higuain but they don’t want to cough up the fee which comes with the transfer of a player who is on their books? They want to have their cake and eat it, United aren’t budging.
It’s interesting to hear Di Marzio say Raiola was nervous during this meeting. Maybe he’s starting to realise he is truly jeopardising the deal with his fee; he could stop the discussions by waiving his fee but there’s more chance of Fergie coming out of retirement tomorrow. That being said, there’s no reason he can’t negotiate down just as United are Juventus are negotiating with each other, this is a three-way deal.
Somebody needs to back down and at the moment it doesn’t look like anybody is. Here’s hoping that changes quickly.
