Manchester United target Raphael Varane has reacted to speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Jose Mourinho was said to be keen on brining him to Man United after working with the Frenchman during his time in charge at Real Madrid.

Speaking to Marca, a move seems to be off the table as Varane insists he loves La Liga fans and wants to continue improving in Spain.

“I want to stay here [at Real Madrid] this year, I feel loved by the fans who want the best for me, and the best is yet to come,” he said.

“I hope to be allowed to start afresh- I’d like to push on, to continue improving. After being at Real for five years, I want to make the next step.”

Mourinho has already acquired the services of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitarayn this summer and is also said to be close to completing a deal for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

A move for the 23-year-old would have helped add plenty of depth to Mourinho’s squad as he heads into a demanding season in the Premier League and Europa League.

However, with Varane looking to stay at the Bernabeu next season, Mourinho will have to look elsewhere if he wants to bolster his defensive options.
