Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrives in Manchester to begin his journey

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been pictured arriving in Manchester as he prepares to train for the first time with the rest of the squad.

The 34-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in early July, and was given an extended holiday break by Mourinho after his exploits at Euro 2016.

Mourinho didn’t include Ibrahimovic in his 25-man pre-season squad that toured China, claiming that the Swede would be better suited to his own specialised training programme.

Ibrahimovic, now back from his holiday, has begun preparing in earnest for the upcoming season.

As pre-season enters its latter stages, Ibrahimovic remains the biggest signing of the summer. And yet, he didn’t cost a penny, and he didn’t even a join a side participating in the Champions League next year.

But the reunion of Mourinho and Ibrahimovic is something even the dourest of rivals must envy and admire. There exists a huge level of respect and understanding between the two. And it is worth remembering that Ibrahimovic once said that he would “die” for 53-year-old, shedding light on Mourinho’s ability to turn players into bloodthirsty warriors.

Under Mourinho, the Swede, after four years in a largely uncompetitive league, looks set to tap into new levels of intensity, power and arrogance. It could be quite a sight.
