Paul Pogba is set to become one of the world’s best paid footballers by joining Manchester United this summer.
Sky Sports report that Pogba will earn £11m per season from Man United in wages and another £5.8m from image rights which would take his total to £16.8m, a phenomenal amount for any single player.
That would make Pogba one of United’s highest paid players and how much would fans care about it? Not even in the slightest.
Lots has been said about Pogba’s move to United; the €110m fee to Juventus being extortionate and far too much for a single player, the fact we’re going to have to pay his agent Mino Raiola €20m and the huge wages he’s going to be on at the club. Other fans might be frustrated but United fans really couldn’t care less.
There is so much to loathe about United’s corporate transformation under the Glazers but if there is one benefit we’re seeing it at the moment with United’s free spending in the transfer window. We’ve got such revenues that we should be spending it, we’ve earned it and it’s not some oil barons money – it is United’s.
Player prices in the market these days are ridiculous but with football getting more competitive every season it is a case of play ball or become Arsenal, where you perennially get close before falling away. United are making a statement this summer in the transfer window and while there are some who laugh at how much we’re spending, United fans are rubbing their hands together at the season ahead.
