Player Ratings: Manchester United 5-2 Galatasaray

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 6 – Conceded two but I’m not sure he could have done too much about either.

Antonio Valencia 10 – Who is this Valencia and what have you done with Antonio? Three assists from the Ecuadorian from two decent crosses he didn’t just spank across the box. Well done Tony. He gets a ten for that because it made me remember how he played in 2010.

Daley Blind 5 – Think he looked a bit leggy in defence. Would rather he played midfielder under Jose Mourinho.

Eric Bailly 6 – Really am enjoying watching Bailly at United. Looks more settled with each game and that’s important ahead of Bournemouth.

Luke Shaw 7 – Every game that passes we get more used to Shaw being back but let’s not underestimate just how important his return is.

Morgan Schneiderlin 5 – Good to see him back. Will be a while before he’s back at peak match fitness though.

Ander Herrera 5 – He looked a bit out of sorts didn’t he? Poor making on the second goal in particular.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 6 – Didn’t really get into the game much at all? Made a couple of dangerous runs but wasn’t picked out by his team-mates.

Wayne Rooney 7 – Sorry but Rooney was trash in that first half. Certainly improved in the second though and a good finish to make it 2-2 and moments later he made it 3-2 from the spot.

Anthony Martial 6 – He looks like a proper No.11 doesn’t he? Pace and confidence to run at players. I could get used to this.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 8 – Three minutes in and Zlatan scores his first goal with a scissor kick. Say no more.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford 7 – His run for Rooney’s penalty and United’s third was my moment of the pitch. He’s our kid. I love him and can’t wait to see what he does this season.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Didn’t see much of him.

Michael Carrick 7 – Think he played better than both Herrera and Schneiderlin and laid on a lovely pass for Mata’s goal.

Ashley Young 5 – Poor crosses but did OK.

Marouane Fellaini 6 – A classic Fellaini goal at the back post with a looping header.

Sergio Romero 5 – He was a bystander.

Phil Jones 5 – Not much action for Jones as Galatasaray had effectively given up by that point.

Juan Mata 7 – Scored such a delightful goal after great link-up play with Carrick. Lovely stuff from Juan.

Memphis Depay 6 – Some vibrant footwork from Memphis but not too much end product.

Marcos Rojo 5 – Rojo scares me. I genuinely fear we’ll concede every time the ball goes near him.
