AC Milan and Inter Milan are both being linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Manchester Evening News reports that the two Italian sides have ‘tentative‘ interest in Schweinsteiger and although his debut year at the club didn’t exactly go to plan, there won’t be any shortage of clubs who would want to sign him if Jose Mourinho were to let him go this summer.
Schweinsteiger was left out of Man United’s squad which faced Galatasaray on Saturday and as Mourinho has confirmed Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Chris Smalling were the only two injuries, Bastian’s absence looks more than likely down to a decision by Jose.
After an unquestionably average debut season for United, there are fans who would be happy for Schweinsteiger to be replaced as part of Mourinho’s revolution but equally so there is a proportion who’d like to see Bastian get one more season at the club, myself included. We took the risk on him last season and it didn’t quite work out, that was the real gamble, so we should at least see what he can do this year under Jose.
There’s no doubt that Schweinsteiger isn’t the player he used to be but like Michael Carrick he’s a quality veteran who, when used in the right way, would still have something to offer United but maybe that’s just my opinion.
