Jose Mourinho has provided a positive injury update on Chris Smalling and Timothy Fosu-Mensah ahead of Manchester United’s fixture against Leicester City in the FA Community Shield.

The duo had been missing from Man United’s training sessions for the last couple weeks after picking up injuries but both returned back to training in recent weeks.

It was great to finally see them back with the rest of the squad but Mourinho has confirmed in his press conference ahead of the game that they are both fine and have recovered with the group as normal.

“They are fine now,” he said.

“They have recovered and they are training with the group as normal, so they are fine. Everybody needs minutes – that is the reality.

“We had so little time to play and Smalling is a player who has not even played one minute. But it is a little bit the same for everyone.”

Mourinho has finally got a full squad at his disposal ahead of our fixture at Wembley and will be looking to build a solid partnership between Smalling and new signing Eric Bailly.

Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones have been playing there in parts and to have Smalling and Fosu-Mensah back will help improve Mourinho’s defensive options.

Luke Shaw‘s return to full fitness has also been a massive boost to Mourinho and he’ll be relishing the opportunity to finally get a strong squad together now that he’s got his players back.
