Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has hailed Paul Pogba’s arrival to the Premier League and believes he will be worth the world record price tag at Manchester United.
It was announced on Tuesday morning that Pogba had officially completed his return to Old Trafford, signing for £89m on a five year deal.
Pogba’s return to Old Trafford has consumed the footballing world, generating immense excitement amongst United fans who bemoaned his departure in 2012.
Even Carragher, a long-term rival of United, admitted that Pogba’s arrival is a monumental addition to English football.
“He will be worth it if he plays well,” he said.
“It looks expensive and it is expensive.
“We should be pleased that he is coming to the Premier League. We have been moaning that Barcelona and Real Madrid take the best players from our league.
“We have got one of the world’s best. Unfortunately he’s at Manchester United!”
Needless to say, Pogba’s arrival is groundbreaking – not just for United, but for English football in general. While Leicester City’s surprise ascension to the top and Chelsea’s decline served as the centrepiece to the Premier League’s drama, all eyes will be firmly on Old Trafford this season as a true global superstar arrives in England.
Above anything, Pogba’s presence on the pitch alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Jose Mourinho ominously lurking on the touchline, United have restored a kind of fear factor that disappeared along with Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
After a muted three years, United – with Pogba at the centre of it all – have finally found their voice.
