The Englishman scored a superb opener in Man united’s 2-1 Community Shield victory over Leicester City at Wembley last Sunday and will be hoping to build on his impressive performances.
He didn’t know what to expect of the Portuguese boss, but has revealed Mourinho is always happy to share a joke and will always try and help his players.
“He’s the main coach and the main manager,” he said.
“He takes all the sessions and, while he wants us to work hard, he is always cracking jokes and having banter with the players, and I think that’s helped the lads bond with him.
“If you look at what he has done in the Premier League then it gives us a lot of hope and confidence for the season.”
“I thought he’d (Mourinho) be very strict but, even though he works us hard and his mind is on the job at all times, he also has a joke with the players.
“He has that presence and aura about him, but you can still speak to him about anything and he will always try to help.” United begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
Lingard’s sublime solo effort would have impressed his new boss and was the perfect way for him to try and cement a place on the first-team.
He’s been hard at work this summer before the players even returned for pre-season training and it looks like the extra hours have paid off.
His former team-mate Paul Pogba has returned to Old Trafford and the two have already been together making videos, but I’m sure the Frenchman will be able to teach Lingard some new tips on how to improve his game.
