Jose Mourinho has praised the Manchester United board for their astuteness in the transfer market throughout this window.
Speaking to MUTV in light of Pogba’s arrival at the club, Mourinho was quick to praise the board’s efficiency in delivering the players he wanted ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
“I think the club was fantastic,” he said.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way we did our market because we got four players that we really believe in and we thought about the profile – the tactical profile, the physical profile, the personality.
“And we got them all before the start of the Premier League, when the transfer window only closes at the end of the month and it becomes normal – almost a tradition, that people delay and delay and delay. We did it before the end of the month, which I think is tremendous work by my board.”
The ruthlessness and precision with which Mourinho has targeted his new signings is something to admire. As various clubs continue to scramble for various transfer targets, the 53-year-old has addressed four key areas that required amending after last season.
In Ibrahimovic, Man United’s goalscoring woes have been assuaged. In Mkhitaryan, the side’s lack of creativity has been rectified. In Bailly, United’s lack of steel and speed at the back has been addressed. And in Pogba, Mourinho has acquired the midfield superstar that has eluded the club since the days of Paul Scholes.
From a United fan’s point of view, this has been the perfect transfer window. Next season simply cannot come soon enough.
