Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been pictured in training ahead of Manchester United’s opening game of the 2016/17 season against AFC Bournemouth.
The Dutchman recently agreed in principle a new long-term contract with Man United and will reportedly sign a new four year deal in the coming days.
United fans, who grew to love Fosu-Mensah’s direct, powerful style at right back last season, were understandably happy with the news.
The 18-year-old hasn’t featured for Jose Mourinho since the 2-0 win against Wigan in July due to injury, but was seen training with the first team earlier today.
Whilst Marcus Rashford was deservedly seen as the finest emergent from the youth side last season, it is impossible to overstate how well Fosu-Mensah adapted to life in the Premier League. Just like Rashford, the 18-year-old had a rip-roaring debut against Arsenal, tearing through the lines and fearlessly imposing himself on Arsenal’s elite.
It was immensely disappointing to see the youngster miss such a large portion of pre-season through injury; his new deal, however, suggests that Mourinho – just like the United faithful – has taken an instant liking to his powerful style, meaning that United fans can look forward to seeing this magical youngster continue his meteoric development.
