Juan Mata opens up about his Man United start under Jose Mourinho

Juan Mata believes Manchester United have made a great star to the season under new manager Jose Mourinho.

Man United won the Community Shield at Wembley last week and have gotten off to the best possible start in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

Reports suggested Mata was angered by Mourinho’s decision to substitute him off in injury time against Leicester, despite only being brought on in the 68 minute.

However, he was picked to start by Mourinho on Sunday afternoon and he went the perfect way about proving his ability to the Portuguese boss by finding the opening goal at Dean Court.

Speaking about the match, Mata insists his team-mates played a very complete game.

“The season has started in a really good way,” he said.

“Eight days ago we won the Community Shield against Leicester at Wembley and this title makes us feel optimistic.

“Beyond this first trophy, it was important to have a positive start in the Premiership against Bournemouth, a team that had a good last season.

“We did it, and overall I think the whole team played a very complete game.

“I believe our victory was well deserved and, on top of that, I was lucky to score the first goal of the game, which is always an extra reason to be happy.”

Many believed Mata’s time at Old Trafford would come to an end after Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal‘s sucessor in May.

However, he has proven himself to Mourinho and has gone the best way about trying to cement his place in the first-team.

It was his first goal in the Premier League under Mourinho and there’s no doubt Mata will be looking to find the back of the net once again against Southampton next weekend.
