Marcos Rojo unaware of Manchester United swap deal – report

Marcos Rojo is unaware of any swap deal involving himself and Southampton defender Jose Fonte, according to Sky Sports.

It was reported this week that Jose Mourinho – who is keen on landing another defender before the transfer window closes –  was willing to offload the Argentine as a means of securing Fonte’s signature.

Fonte conceded last week that he was “flattered” by Manchester United’s interest, but insisted he was focused on his exploits at St. Mary’s.

According to Sky Sources, the 26-year-old has not been informed of any potential swap deal, and is determined to remain at Old Trafford this season.

After two years at Man United, Rojo has failed to earn the complete trust of supporters. While his boldness and physicality has served him well at times (most notably against Arsenal last season, in what was a sensational performance), a lack of awareness and mobility is manifest in his game.

And with Eric Bailly and Daley Blind already stamping their authority at the back this season, alongside the imminent return of Chris Smalling – the heartbeat of United’s defence, finding regular game time will be difficult for the Argentine.

That said, under the tutelage of Mourinho, Rojo (assuming he stays at the club) could eradicate the faults that often hallmarked his performances last season.
