Di Marzio: Borthwick-Jackson set for season-long loan with Wolves

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is set to sign for Wolves on a season-long loan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Di Marzio suggests Wolves director Andrea Butti attended Man United’s match against Southampton to close a deal and his relationship with Jose Mourinho helped facilitate the move.

He signed a new four-year contract in May after enjoying an impressive breakthrough season under Louis van Gaal in which he was named Under-21 Player of the Year.

The youngster missed Man United’s pre-season tour with a groin strain which could have been the deciding factor for his loan move to the Championship.

Mourinho has plenty of defensive options and a loan move was definitely the right choice for both parties if he believed there would be no space for the left-back at Old Trafford this campaign.

The Portuguese boss clearly has faith in Borthwick-Jackson as his contract renewal was one of Mourinho’s first points of action when he was appointed as manager in May.

A move to the Championship will help with his development as a player and the opportunity to play first-team football each week will be one the Englishman will not want to pass up.
