Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Tyler Blackett to Reading FC on a permanent deal.
The 22-yer-old defender becomes the latest departure following the sales of Paddy McNair and Donald Love to Sunderland as well as lots of players who have left on loan including Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Adnan Januzaj.
Speaking about the deal, Reading boss Jaap Stam (yes, that Stam) said: “As we know, Tyler is a talented defender who has played for United’s first team. He can play as a left-back or a left-sided centre-back; he has got great potential in the sense that he is quick and athletic, defensively he is strong and he is good at set-pieces. As a defender he can go and play high up the pitch as well, and that is what we need in the squad.”
This is definitely the right move for all parties involved. Blackett gets a new opportunity and kick starts his career after a dismal loan spell at Celtic and Jose Mourinho decreases the size of his squad to make it exactly how he wants it to be.
I’ll be frank in saying I never thought Blackett had what it took to make it at United but wish him the best of luck at Reading.
