He has been continuously linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Stoke and Arsenal interested in landing his services this summer.
The 24-year-old has not played a competitive game for the senior side since January 2 and has been excluded from Mourinho’s match day squads for the start of the Premier League campaign.
Speaking about his plans, Jones insists he is hoping to move on and keep himself fit.
“I’ve had ups and downs,” he said.
“It started off really well and winning the league in my second season was a dream, I’ve managed to play at a World Cup, been at a Euros, played over 100 games, overall not as many as I’d have liked but hopefully I can get many more games.
“I didn’t play much football last season so it’s important for me to stay fit and give myself a bit of an edge at the start of the season, come back fit and strong. I’ve started seasons off and set this goal and that goal, and I want to do this and I want to do that.
“I just want to play football this season and just enjoy it, play games and win things ultimately and hopefully we can do that.”
Jones hasn’t been able to keep himself fit at Man United and only made 10 appearances in the Premier League campaign last season under Louis van Gaal.
Although he has now returned back to full fitness, the Englishman has fallen further down the pecking order and could drop even lower as Mourinho is said to be searching for a new centre-back.
He has plenty of work ahead of him if he wants to get ahead the likes of Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Chris Smalling, but September will be the perfect month to do so as Mourinho has previously stated all his players will receive game time.
