Manuel Neuer: Manchester United’s treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger is saddening

Manuel Neuer insists it’s sad supporters won’t be able to see Bastian Schweinsteiger in action after he was frozen out at Manchester United.

The German international is yet to feature under Jose Mourinho and doesn’t look like he’ll be coming in to the fold any time soon after he was told he wouldn’t be included in Mourinho’s plans.

While the club want him to secure an exit before the end of the summer transfer window, he has released a statement claiming he will not sign for another European club.

Speaking about his former international team-mate, Neuer believes fans are missing out on one of the best midfielders in the world.

“We know how important Basti has been for all team, be it Bayern or the Nationalmannschaft,” he said.

“For me he’s always been one of the best midfielders in the world, and he still is. That’s why it’s sad the footballing world now can’t see him.”

German fans will have their chance to say goodbye to the former captain as they take on Finland at Monchengladbach in a friendly next week.

While it’s a shame to see his talent wasted, he just doesn’t fit in to Mourinho’s squads and wasn’t able to keep himself fit last season.

I can’t see him featuring for Man United this season if he stays past the summer transfer window, a move would benefit both parties as he’ll be able to pick up first-team game time elsewhere while United can take his staggering salary off the wage bills.
