Antonio Valencia explains why he has performed so well under Jose Mourinho

Antonio Valencia has opened up about his impressive start at Manchester United under new manager Jose Mourinho.

The Ecuadorian has started the new campaign in excellent form and has undoubtedly been one of our best performers, gathering several assists from his position on the flank while defending very strongly.

He failed to make his mark on the side under Louis van Gaal, but it seems Mourinho’s arrival at the club has injected new confidence into the squad as they hope to win the title this season.

Speaking about the club’s start, Valencia reveals Mourinho tells the team to go out to win with the winning mentality of champions.

“I think he’s given a really positive boost of confidence to the side and that can be seen out there on the field,” he said.

“Everyone is feeling confident, everyone wants the ball and that’s a very good sign. Everyone is running hard, showing good movement and reading our moves and build-up play, and that’s important too.

“On his advice, well, it’s the same for all the team: always go out to win and always have the winning mentality of champions. Let’s hope we can carry on in the same style.”

“I want to put a shift in for United, the team that I love. I always want to give everything for this team.”

Many believed he was entering the final stages of his career at Old Trafford under van Gaal as he failed to cement his place in the first-team.

However, he has been one of our standout performers this season and is a brilliant example, along with Marouane Fellaini, of how Mourinho manages to get the best out of his players.

He has locked a place down on Mourinho’s side and hopes are he is able to keep fit as United head into a very busy month of fixtures.
