Darmian made a promising start to life at Old Trafford upon arriving last summer, only to struggle under Louis van Gaal for the majority of the season.
According to Gazzetta World, Inter manager Frank De Boer is keen to lure the 26-year-old back to Italy.
The tangent of Darmian’s debut season aligns almost perfectly with United’s 2015/16 season as a whole: a highly promising start, hallmarked by some sturdy performances that generated good results. And then, almost inexplicably, there was a sudden miserable decline in both confidence levels and results. Darmian, once again in keeping with the latter stages of the van Gaal era, came across as too slow, too immobile, and most notably bereft of confidence.
However, the Italian might benefit from staying with this current squad – a stark contrast from the unhappy, sapped group of players that trudged through last year’s campaign. As September comes round the corner, bringing with it three different competitions, Darmian will undoubtedly receive the chance he needs to rectify the form that saw him make such a powerful impression last year.
