The 20-year-old latched onto Paul Pogba‘s excellent long ball after 17 minutes and duly netted his first goal for the national side.
Martial has made a tentative start to life under Jose Mourinho, failing to find the net in four games and occasionally coming across as a peripheral figure on the left hand side.
Man United supporters, following Martial’s goal, were hopeful the striker will continue in the same vein at Old Trafford.
So happy to hear Martial scoring. Will help so much with his confidence. And a confident Martial is ????????

Martial getting a goal for France should boost his confidence when he comes back after the internationals

Could it be that Martial’s reduction in potency is just a result of Mourinho’s style of play?
Last season, Louis van Gaal placed emphasis on Martial receiving the ball close to the byline, giving the Frenchman a better angle from which to charge towards goal.
However, with Mourinho at the helm, things are different: his 4-2-3-1 and insistence on midfield closely covering the defence means Martial is playing much deeper than usual. Mourinho has a propensity to turn outright attacking wingers into defensively astute wide men, as seen with Samuel Eto’o at Inter Milan and even Willian at Chelsea.
It is by no means an easy transition for the Frenchman; but at just 20-years-old, Martial will continue to develop and hopefully adapt to his new role at United.
