Paul Pogba reveals why he came back to Manchester United this summer

Paul Pogba has outlined his desire to be the best at Manchester United.

The midfielder, who returned to Old Trafford last month after four years at Juventus for a world record £89m fee, has made an emphatic start under Jose Mourinho, acting as the midfield driving force in wins over Southampton and Hull City.

Pogba carried his world-beating form into France’s 3-1 win over Italy, crowning a powerful performance with two sumptuous assists for Anthony Martial and Layvin Kurwaza.

Upon his return to Man United, Pogba shed light on his lofty ambitions for his time at Old Trafford.

“I came back because I wanted to and United showed that they wanted me back,” he said.

“We have a good team who wants to win they league again with a big manager, top players and a new team. My ambition is always to be No.1, always be the best.

“To be the best is to win the league – that is the objective of everyone. That’s what we want to do.

“We want to go back to the Champions League because I know that’s where we belong.”

When you break the world record transfer for someone, they’re not just there to be another cog in the machine. No, Pogba is far, far more important than that: placed in the centre of midfield, he is the binding force, the nucleus of the entire team, with his own powerful, dynamic style capturing the very essence of Mourinho’s methodology.

With Pogba in the side, Mourinho’s side conjures up the image of something being built according to precise design. The Frenchman is the axis, and those around dance to the beat of his drum. One simply can’t overestimate how far this superstar can go.
