Adnan Januzaj: I came back to David Moyes because he gives me chances

Adnan Januzaj insists he joined David Moyes at Sunderland because he provides him with opportunities to play.

The 21-year-old, who burst into the first-team under the management of Moyes during the 2013-14 season, came into prominence as one of the most exciting prospects in football.

During Moyes’ brief stay at Old Trafford, there were very few things to look forward to, but the emergence of Belgian winger was definitely one of them.

Speaking about his loan move, Januzaj claims he is determined to prove a point to his doubters this season.

“It’s not to re-establish myself, it’s just to prove to some of the people that they were wrong,” he said.

“I will work hard to do that. My mentality is to never give up, even if things go a bit wrong. You always have to keep working.

“Over the last two years, I haven’t had many opportunities to play so I have come here to play, and to prove to people that they were wrong.

“I love to play football so I am happy to be here and play games.

“I’m back with the same manager [Moyes], he gives me a lot of chances to play and to prove myself to people.

“He asked me if I wanted to come here and I said that I wanted to play. He has given me the opportunity to do that, and I am really grateful for it.

“He is building a very good team. It is still early for him to show what he can do, because he will need to adapt to the club, but I think he is doing very well.”

After Moyes was sacked, Januzaj found himself left on the sidelines under Louis van Gaal, before his disappointing loan move to German outfit Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

He was also left out of selection for Euro 2016 and will be hoping to prove himself after a lack of first-team action over the past two years.

Since joining the Black Cats, he has featured in all four of their games, starting in the last three and scoring his first goal for the club in the 1-0 EFL Cup win over Shrewsbury Town last month.
