Philipp Lahm has expressed his unhappiness about former team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger‘s current situation at Manchester United.
Lahm, who played alongside Schweinsteiger for both club and country, recently told SportBild he had expected a better career for the German midfielder following his move to Old Trafford.
Speaking about the current situation, Lahm insists Bastian’s experience will help him pull through.
“For Basti it’s a difficult situation. But he is so experienced that he will make the right decision,” he said.
“I have no idea of what has happened at Manchester United. But I can say I definitely had wished for better for Basti.”
Not only has Bastian failed to feature in any of United’s games this season, he was also asked to train with the reserves.
After being deemed a surplus to requirements by Mourinho, the Portuguese boss was desperate to offload him during the transfer window, but he rejected a summer move to Sporting Lisbon.
Schweinsteiger is one of the most experienced players in the United dressing room, but whether or not he will be able to force his way back into the first-team remains to be seen.
One thing is for sure, the German has confidence in his own abilities and is prepared to fight for his way back into the squad.
