Former Juventus and Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta insists Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still as good as Luis Suarez and Neymar.
The big Swede has made a characteristically immense start to life at Old Trafford, netting four goals and receiving the Eurosport European Player of the Month award in the process.
Zambrotta, who retired back in 2014, played alongside the 34-year-old at Juventus, Barcelona and AC Milan during his career.
The Italian believes, despite Zlatan’s age, he is on a par with the likes of Suarez and Neymar.
“Wherever Zlatan plays he does very well,” he said.
“He is a winner everywhere he goes. He compares with the best players at the moment like Suarez and Neymar.”
“I played with him twice and he’s a good professional and has good motivation. I have always liked him.”
Since 2013, Zlatan has netted 121 goals. How many has Suarez managed in that time? 115. And Neymar? 85.
Of course, numbers don’t tell you everything; and yes, I know, Neymar doesn’t play as a striker. But Zlatan’s superior tally of goals over the pair, who would arguably be regarded as the two best players in the world if Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t exist, tells a story of its own.
Despite his age, his status as a juggernaut in world football still remains. Question his speed and urgency if you wish, but never, never question his scoring record.
