David de Gea praises Jose Mourinho’s new Man United signings

David de Gea was full of praise for Eric Bailly, labelling the Ivorian as a great signing, before going on to express his enthusiasm over the addition of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 22-year-old, who signed from Villarreal this summer, has made an explosive start to his Manchester United career, deservedly receiving the Player of the Month award after a series of powerful performances.

Both Pogba and Ibrahimovic have also made confident starts; the Frenchman has slotted into the heart of Jose Mourinho’s midfield, and the Swede has already clocked up four goals in a red shirt.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, the Spaniard showered praise on all three new signings.

“Oof, [Bailly has been] a great signing,” De Gea said.

“Eric’s come in and surprised us all very quickly. I remember when I first came to England and, trust me, it can be hard early on but he’s flying.

“He is physical, strong, technically confident and super-fast. He only speaks a little English but we have lots of Spaniards in the dressing room and Paul Pogba speaks French of course.

“He’s a big presence and when I stand in the tunnel and look behind me, he is one of the new big, powerful players along with Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic that gives us real presence and stature this season.”

Alongside the regenerated Marouane Fellaini, Pogba, Bailly and Ibrahimovic form the backbone of a physically imposing Mourinho side, hallmarked by ruthlessness and arrogance. Any side that challenges for the title requires a firm base – one that doesn’t wilt during situations of immense pressure.

The last Mourinho side to win a Premier League title espoused the same feature, with John Terry, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa all forming the spine of a side that ultimately strolled to the title with hardly any hiccups.

And for the first time in years, it really does feel as if this Man United side possesses a genuine stature.
