Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, believes his client can be the world’s best midfielder at Manchester United.
Raiola, also an agent of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, oversaw Pogba’s world record £89m move to Man United last month, receiving a reported £18m as a result.
Pogba has made a convincing start to his United career, acting as the nucleus of winning performances against Southampton and Hull City.
Speaking to Cadena COPE, Raiola insisted Pogba is happy under Jose Mourinho, and opened up about the 23-year-old becoming the world’s best at Old Trafford.
“The important thing is that the player is happy. For me the transfer fee is not important,” he said.
“Football players at this level are not sold, players at this level are purchased.
“A very beautiful picture is not sold, the owner never wants to sell it, but people buy them.
“Pogba, in his position, is the best player in the world, and has the potential to be number one overall.
“But what’s important is that the player is where he wants to be.”
At the age of 23, Pogba has already stamped his authority on world football. Since leaving – and then rejoining – United, he has won six major honours, featured in a Champions League final and even made his way into the FIFPro World XI for 2015.
The description ‘unique’ is often used quite loosely – and wrongly – in football, but such a term applies to Pogba without question. Unlike most midfielders, Pogba has mastered every possible attribute that could be possessed by a central midfielder: he is strong, quick, technically gifted, intelligent on the ball, and has a wonderful range of pass. His all-encompassing style makes him not just dangerous, but impossible to ignore.
Whether he will go on to be the world’s best remains to be seen, of course. One thing we can be sure of is that the Frenchman possesses all the raw attributes necessary to become a world-beater.
