Jesse Lingard insists he was way off it during his 45-minute performance against Manchester City.
The Manchester United midfielder made his first appearance in over a month after recovering from injury but looked to be completely out of the game.
He was misplacing passes and was sloppy with possession, resulting in Marcus Rashford taking his place at half-time as Jose Mourinho switched to a 4-3-3 formation.
Lingard took to social media after the game to give fans an apology.
It’s disappointing because he began the season with a stunning solo goal against Leicester City and it looked like he was kicking off his career under Mourinho with a bang.
However, he now will be determined to move on from his performance against City and will be relishing the opportunity to prove his ability.
Mourinho was also to blame for introducing him back to football after over a month on the sidelines with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was also not match-ready and had to undertake an MRI scan after the game.
The Portuguese boss has guaranteed all his players game-time this month and he’ll be hoping to get another chance against Feyenoord in the Europa League group stages.
