Paul Scholes insists Manchester United should purchase either Luka Modric or Toni Kroos to get the best out of Paul Pogba.
The world’s most expensive footballer produced a dull performance from the No.10 role during Man United’s shock 1-0 defeat to Feyenoord at De Kuip.
He was heavily criticised by supporters and not for the first time since he re-joined the club last month.
Speaking about his showing, Scholes believes Pogba is currently trying to do too much.
“Tonight wasn’t his best performance,” he said.
“I don’t really know what position he’s playing in. He seems to be a little bit all over the place.
“I think he’s trying to do too much on the ball; he’s trying to beat three, four players. Just keep it simple for now, Paul, ease your way in.
“That’s not the player Man Utd bought. They didn’t buy a Lionel Messi to beat five players and stick it in the top corner. They bought a powerful, strong midfield player.
Scholes then named Real Madrid duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as two potential signings Mourinho could consider to help get the best out of Pogba.
Pogba has produced some average showings, but Mourinho has a stacked midfield and plenty of options at his disposal to help the Frenchman thrive.
While he hasn’t performed in the No.10 role against Feyenoord, hopes are he can re-find his form and will be given another opportunity to show his ability in that position by the Portuguese boss.
